To kick off 2012, the RPSI is hosting a Breeder's Tour to the South German Stallion Approvals, held January 26th-28th, 2012 in Munich Germany.
The Breeder's tour will include daily shuttle service to the Stallion Approvals, Tickets for the entire event and Gala evening,
a full-time translator and guide, a ring-side mentor to explain the judging rules and educate everyone in selection for sport
and breeding. Eighty 3 y.o.
stallions are scheduled to participate in this cooperative licensing -- this is a fabulous and
diverse group of top young stallion prospects.
For educational events, we have planned a discussion on the Direction of Breeding the Modern Sporthorse with Stud Book
director Otto Schalter, a private explanation of results and the reasoning behind the committee's decisions given
by Breeding Director Hans-Willy Kusserow, one of the official judges for the event , and finally, a question and answer
session with one of the stallion handlers.
Guests may choose to stay from Wednesday through Sunday only to take in the auction/approval, or spend a few extra days
sight-seeing and visiting German breeders and stallion stations. We have a block of rooms reserved at the
Hotel am Moosfeld at the rate of 65 Euro/night/person – this is an
excellent rate at a comfortable hotel close to the Olympic Riding
Hall of Munich-Riem (Landshamer Strasse 11, Munchen-Riem), where the approvals will take place.
The scheduled activities begin Wednesday evening, January 25th, with a group dinner and discussion - this will be a
great time to get acquainted and oriented, as well as get the scoop on the stallions and breeders you’ll meet, and the
activities coming in the following days. Thursday morning the 26th will be the first official day of the approvals,
with the inspection of the stallions on the hard ground at 9 a.m. At noon the stallions will be presented in front of the crowd,
and in the afternoon, the practice round of Free Jumping. This is an important first day to take the measure of the young
stallions, and for first impressions. Friday the 27th brings the Free Jumping and Presentation of the stallions to the judging
committee, the results of the Keuring (approved/not approved) and in the evening, the Gala and breeders party. On Saturday the
28th we will see the lunging of the stallions in the main arena at 8:30 a.m., followed by the awarding of the premiums. In the
afternoon will be the Auction – the most exciting part of the event! The dollar is finally gaining against the Euro, so the
horse-shopping opportunities are looking more and more interesting, as well.
We are planning some sightseeing on the Sunday and Monday after the Approvals if we have enough interest, as well as
visits to some farms. We will have firmer details on those activities soon. Here’s a helpful website for the
city of Munich.
The South German Stallion Approvals
offer breeders, riders and trainers an unparalleled opportunity to shop for young stallion and competition prospects early in
the season, as well as learn more about the bloodlines and selection process in Europe. The learning opportunities (and horse
shopping) together with the ambiance, makes this approvals and auction a must-see. As a final consideration, the
variety of bloodlines and types at this cooperative approval is both interesting and educational, for a breeder. We're planning
for a relaxed, fun and educational time in Munich - we hope you can join us!
